No Peeking.

Sometimes I like to just pick up my Portfolio oil pastels and create one of my 'quick' girls.

I did this one today.

No Peeking

She was done on the back of a piece of card that was lying on my desk.

I have mentioned before but I will again. I just love working in these pastels. Before these I just had some really cheap ones that were very hard to work with as they were difficult to blend. Working in these pastels have convinced me that it would be worth while taking a step up to the more expensive artist grade pastels.

THANKS FOR VISITING.

Paint Party Friday.

Yes..... the week has flown over and here we are again.

If you have visited here since last Friday you will know that I was making a board book from some old cardboard packaging but unfortunately the cover didn't work out. If you would like you can read about it here.

However I have been working on the loose pages and have been practicing some abstracts. This is my latest one.

You can see the other pages here and here.

I intend to continue with abstracts on the loose pages and when they are completed then I will make a cover and bind them together.

If you haven't already done so why not pop over and take a look at what the other party goers are doing over at PAINT PARTY FRIDAY.

THANKS FOR VISITING.

Another Abstract.

Yes.....another page in my unbound board book (without a cover).

This is, by far, my favourite  up to now.

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY.
IT MEANS A LOT.

WOYWW

What's on my desk this Wednesday?

In my last post here  I shared some pic's of remnants left over from a failed project.  The idea was to make a board book from cardboard packaging. Even though the cover went awry I have been using the pages to practice some abstracts.

Untitled

In my last post I said that I was hoping to have another piece ready in time for the Deconstruction challenge over at Paper Artsy.

My intention was to make a board book out of some old dog food boxes and some packaging left over from my new bed linen. The idea was for it to be in black and white and to feature found words from book text. However it all went horribly wrong.

At first I struggled with the limited palette. I just couldn't seem to create anything that was interesting to look at. Then I decided to go ahead and bind it together but I went and punched the wholes in the spine for the signatures in the wrong place. So, that was it. There was only one thing for it and that was to give it up as a bad job and so I 'deconstructed' it a bit more by ripping it to pieces

Now that I am left with some bits and pieces I quite like them, so, I decided to take some pic's and share them  here. They are just bits and pieces so, needless to say, they won't be entered into  challenge but you never know they might get used as part of something in the future.

Once Upon a Time.......

The challenge over at Paper Artsy at the moment is 'Deconstruction'. You take something and 'deconstruct' it and use it for something other than  what it was intended for. I was inspired by the projects featured using cardboard. Click on the link and take a look at some wonderful projects.

I had some cardboard packaging. It was from a book I ordered from a well known company with the same name as a jungle beginning with A. This packaging is just ideal to use as a substrate for mixed media paintings and I love to work on it.

This is hopefully my first of two entries. I am still working on another and I hope it will be finished in time.

In this close up you can see the effect of the corrugations in the cardboard which makes for a lovely texture.

Materials I used are acrylics, gesso, oil pastels and Stabilo All pencil.

Thanks to all who visited here last week for PAINT PARTY FRIDAY.  I really love hearing your comments.

WOYWW

Hi there,
Today the majority of my desk is taken up by something I am doing for the Paper Artsy challenge so I can't share it here today. Hopefully I will get it finished in time and will post about it at the end of the week.

However I designated a corner to show a little 'quickie girl I did this week. I have a name for this series of girls. I call them 'The Unfortunates' because they are not the prettiest of girls but I love them. In fact I liked this little 'Unfortunate' so much that I put her in a  frame and she now sits on the top of my wall  unit in my living room.

Thank you to all who visited my desk last week I really do love hearing your comments. x

Lets Celebrate!!

Today is Paint Party Fridays 4th Birthday and our hosts  Eva and Kristin asked us to celebrate by doing a self portrait. I totally forgot  about it until I came to do my post today so I got  out my Portfolio pastels and rustled up a quick attempt at a selfie.

This week I have been working on a number of things that I will share at a later date. One of which is a gift for a friend so I can't post about it until she has received it in case she see's it here first.

What I can show you is a page in my 'Play Time' Journal  that I did last night, once again with my oil pastels whilst in front of the tele.

I want to say a BIG THANK YOU once again for all your kind comments and say WELCOME to my new FOLLOWERS. I am glad to have you on board.

The Chosen Two and WOYWW

Hi there,

This week I can't show whats on my desk as I am working on something for a friend and I don't want to give anything away as she may stop by. However I can show you what I have been working on since last Wednesday.

Pink Wings
9 x 12 inches

I love obvious titles.

I used acrylics, Portfolio pastels, watercolour pencils, a Stabilo All pencil and collage papers. Her dress is made up of doilies and covered with Treasure Gold (Olive Bronze) and the wings are shiny pink craft paper.

I am also linking this to ART JOURNAL JOURNEY where this months theme is THINGS WITH WINGS. Click on the link below and check out lots more things with wings.

Last week I asked  for your help with making a choice of which two mixed media paintings to choose for an exhibition I am taking part in. I had lots of lovely helpful comments. A BIG THANK YOU to all who gave me your opinion.

Sisters came out on top.

Second most popular was Daydreamer.

It was a very close thing between second and third.

WOYWW #300

This week see's the 300th WOYWW and a big thanks goes out to our host Julia for giving us the opportunity to share what is on our desks each week with other like-minded people around the world.

There is not too much going on on my desk this week. I have just been playing around with some paint, Brusho Sprays and homemade stamps to create some random patterns for some collage papers.

I know that you who are visiting here today for WOYWW may want to rush off to do the rounds to see other people desks and don't want to get held up by reading a long post (well not too long).  If that is you then THANK YOU for stopping by I really appreciate it.

For those of you who would like to read on, I would be grateful for your opinion on something.

There is another open exhibition at a local gallery and I am planning on submitting two of my mixed media paintings but I can't decide between these three.

Daydreamer

Sisters

All Dressed Up

I would really value your opinion. I would love it if you would leave a comment and let me know which two you think I should submit.

THANKS FOR VISITING.

In Miniature,

Thanks to Diana over at Velvet Moth Studio, I have found a wonderful challenge over at Paper Artsy. The current topic is 'Miniature Art'.

I took a look and decided it would be fun to join in. If you follow the link above you can read all about it and see a short video with lots of ideas and maybe you will be inspired to join in too.

I decided to do a mini portrait. It is 2x2 inches so I suppose you could call it a 'twinchie'.

I used a piece of cardboard and added scrim, modelling paste and gesso as a base. I then used acrylics, watercolour pencils and charcoal pencil.

WHY NOT FOLLOW THE LINKS ABOVE
AND SEE SOME MORE MINIATURE ART.
