Paint Party Friday

A local gallery is holding an open exhibition in September and I was considering showing one of my mixed media paintings.  I have shown a textile piece in the past but never one of my mixed media pieces.

The title of the exhibition is 'Escapes and Hideaway's'. I have exercised a bit of artistic licence with my piece and I am not sure if I will get away with it. What do you think? The clue is in the title.......

Escape Within Yourself.
mixed media on 9"x12" watercolour paper.

A close up of some of the detail.

I am linking this post to Paint Party Friday.

If you don't already know what it is all about and you would like to see some artwork from some very talented artists click on the badge in the side-bar and take a look.

For those of you who visited here one Friday a while back and remember the beginnings of a tiny concertina book. You can see what happened to it here.

Thanks for visiting x

  3. Wonderful, Fuzzie. I particularly like the corrugated texture - this is something I've been exploring recently and love the effect. Hope the exhibition goes well - it's a fascinating theme, and it will be interesting to see what others come up with.

Thanks for your visit, and lol at your comment - I'm afraid I can't answer your question because unfortunately I never grew up lol!!! I love the effect of the bubbliness of this medium and the soft, velvety feel of it. I love doing experiments like this and I am currently trying to think of other materials I can experiment with, to give me the results I want.

After visiting my old school and seeing the workbooks and portfolios of the girls, I realise the importance of documenting each step in a process so you can remember exactly how you got from A to B, and the steps in between - seemingly blind alleys can have their uses in other projects or processes. Eventually I shall collate all these bits and pieces with experiments on them, and file them away properly where they can be useful.

  4. This is a beautiful painting and I love the whole peaceful feeling it evokes. Sweet little concertina book too. I used to make little books all the time.

  8. Thanks for your lovely supportive comment, Fuzzie - I think anyone who has animals would understand what I went through. We feel so protective of them, don't we! Especially when they are so small and vulnerable and dependent on us. Thank you - I am feeling tons better today, which I expected, after a day of total rest. The only trouble is, I am now behind with everything! Glad you liked the restaurant photos. It's a magical place.

    Have a great weekend!

  12. I love this! And I think the title is perfect, she has her eyes shut and is escaping in her thoughts, so the piece itself will fit right in with the exhibits theme. Gorgeous, Carol. Just wonderful :o) x
